Episode 23: Recognize It. Call It Out. That’s How You Level Up.

Level Up

You’re evolving. Right now.

It’s not always loud or dramatic. It’s not always something you post about.

Sometimes it’s just different.

A different tone in your voice, a different response in a familiar situation or a different level of calm in a conversation that used to throw you off.

That’s growth.

And most of us are experiencing it every single week without stopping long enough to appreciate it.

“Growth doesn’t always make noise. Sometimes it just changes the energy.”

We think leveling up has to look big.

A promotion.
A milestone.
A breakthrough moment that everyone can see.

But most personal growth doesn’t arrive that way.

It shows up in quiet upgrades.

You stay in a meaningful conversation instead of checking out.
Saying, “You’re right,” without defensiveness.
Holding a boundary without overexplaining.
Taking ownership without spiraling into shame.
Leading with steadiness instead of urgency.

That’s not small. That’s evolution in motion.

The Moment That Changed My Perspective

Recently, I walked into my kitchen while my husband and my middle son were talking.

He’s a junior in high school, and this season is full of growth. You can feel it. Independence is rising. Perspective is widening. Identity is forming in real time.

I didn’t hear the whole conversation, I didn’t know what they were discussing. I just walked into the room.

And the energy had shifted.

It wasn’t dramatic or emotional. It was grounded and it was expanded.

I asked what happened.

They both looked at me and said almost at the same time, “That was a level up.”

I didn’t know the details. But I knew it mattered.

They didn’t just experience growth. They recognized it, named it and validated it.

And that’s what most of us miss.

“Growth recognized becomes identity.”

Why We Miss Our Level Ups

We move fast.

We check the box and move on to the next thing.
Assuming growth is only real when it’s visible.

But think about this.

There was a version of you five years ago who would’ve handled certain moments differently.

Maybe you would’ve reacted faster.
Spoken sharper.
Shut down sooner.
Explained yourself longer.
Avoided the conversation altogether.

Now you pause, you listen, and you respond.

That shift might feel subtle, but it’s powerful.

“There’s an old version of you that would’ve handled this differently. That’s proof you’ve leveled up.”

If you don’t stop to name it, your brain doesn’t register it as progress. It just files it under “life.”

But it’s not just life.

It’s growth.

Leveling Up in Yourself

Every real level up begins internally.

It’s awareness rising and clarity strengthening.
It’s emotional intelligence expanding in real time.

You catch yourself mid-reaction and pause.

That pause matters.

You notice a pattern and choose differently.

That choice matters.

You feel the urge to blame or deflect and instead you take ownership.

That’s leadership.

Most of your biggest level ups won’t be public.

They happen in your thoughts.
In your nervous system.
In that split second where you decide you’re not repeating the old pattern.

That’s powerful.

“The biggest level ups often happen where no one else can see them.”

If five years ago you would’ve exploded and today you stayed steady, that’s transformation.

Say it.

“That was a level up.”

Because when you recognize growth, you reinforce it.

And when you reinforce it, you become it.

Leveling Up in Relationships

Leveling up in a relationship doesn’t mean everything’s perfect.

It means you’re growing together.

It looks like this:

You move from trying to win to trying to understand.
Leaning into conversations that matter and communicate more clearly.
You trust more deeply.

Sometimes you can feel it happening in real time.

A conversation lands differently.
Trust deepens.
Respect strengthens.

When I walked into that kitchen and realized I didn’t need to control or fully understand the moment, that was a level up for me.

I trusted what was unfolding.

I trusted the maturity in the room.

That’s growth inside a partnership. That’s growth inside a family.

And when you call it out inside a relationship, you build culture.

You normalize evolution.

You make growth visible and celebrated.

“When growth is named in a relationship, it becomes part of the culture.”

Leveling Up in Leadership and Influence

Whether you’re parenting, mentoring, or leading a team, growth multiplies through influence.

You guide instead of control and ask instead of assume.
You trust instead of micromanage.

That’s powerful leadership.

At work, leveling up isn’t just about a new title.

It’s about elevation.

You choose excellence and speak with clarity.
You empower others and raise the standard because you’ve grown.

That stretch you feel when you step into bigger conversations or stronger boundaries?

It’s not threat.

It’s expansion.

“Stretch isn’t a warning sign. It’s a growth signal.”

When you say, “That was growth,” you’re training your brain to associate expansion with strength.

Recognition rewires meaning.

And meaning drives behavior.

You’re Building Momentum

Look at your life honestly.

Are you responding differently than you used to?

Did you communicate with more confidence?

Are you quicker to take ownership?

Steadier under pressure?

If the answer is yes, even in small ways, you’re leveling up.

You’re stacking maturity.

You’re compounding confidence.

The world celebrates outcomes.

But real growth celebrates perspective.

And perspective shifts are where your power lives.

“You’re not just moving through life. You’re building momentum.”

The Practice

Here’s the practice.

Notice one level up this week.

Just one.

One moment where you handled something with more strength.
One conversation that felt deeper.
One decision that reflected who you’re becoming.

Pause.

Don’t rush past it.

Say it out loud.

“That was a level up.”

Because what you recognize, you reinforce.

And what you reinforce, you repeat.

That’s how leveling up becomes a lifestyle.
