Author Spotlight: E.S. David

“Finishing this book gave me confidence that I could finally see a story through to the end.”

-E.S. David

Genre & Story Roots

E.S. David’s connection to fantasy began with a love of expansive worlds and stories that unfold slowly, inviting readers to lose themselves in places where friendship, self-discovery, and purpose are tested. Influenced by epic series such as The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and Harry Potter, he was drawn to narratives that ask characters to step beyond the familiar and confront who they are becoming.

At the same time, E.S. David felt compelled to explore stories with more moral tension. He wanted characters who live in the grey, individuals shaped by choice, consequence, and uncertainty. Rather than writing heroes as ideals, he writes people as they are, capable of growth, missteps, and change.

Why He Writes

E.S. David writes for those moments when certainty falls away, and curiosity takes its place. His stories are not about arriving at neat answers, but about the search itself, the quiet, persistent pull toward meaning.

That search defines Erica Brooks, the heart of The Trials of Aqouril. Erica is strong and principled yet still learning who she is and what she stands for. She is driven by a sense of restlessness and possibility, a feeling that something more exists just beyond her current world. Through her, E.S. David explores what it means to feel slightly out of place while still believing there is something worth reaching for.

Whether readers are searching for love, belonging, purpose, or adventure, Erica’s journey reflects a universal truth: meaning is not discovered all at once, but shaped through experience.

The Writing Journey

Before The Trials of Aqouril, E.S. David had begun other manuscripts that never made it beyond their opening chapters. The idea of finishing a novel felt distant, uncertain, and unfinished in his own mind.

This story changed that relationship entirely.

It stayed with him away from the page, pressing for attention during quiet moments, asking questions that demanded answers. Plot problems became puzzles to solve, not obstacles to avoid. What began as an idea slowly became a commitment, one carried forward by genuine passion and curiosity about where the story might lead.

Completing the book marked a personal turning point. It wasn’t simply the act of publishing. It was the moment E.S. David realized he could trust himself to follow a story from its first spark to its final page.

A Series in the Making

The Trials of Aqouril

From the beginning, The Trials of Aqouril was envisioned as the opening chapter of a larger journey. The first book lays the foundation, introducing the world and its characters, while future installments will broaden the landscape and deepen the challenges those characters face.

As the world expands, so too will the questions it asks.

E.S. David sees the series as a space for ongoing growth, both for the characters and for himself as a writer.

What He Hopes Readers Feel

Above all, E.S. David hopes readers feel a sense of wonder when they step into Aqouril, paired with the comfort of recognition.

He hopes they find something familiar in Erica’s uncertainty and determination, and permission to accept that not having everything figured out is part of the journey. The story invites readers to linger in that space of searching, where meaning is not handed down, but discovered slowly, one choice at a time.
