ABOUT THE BOOK
Angelie Fairfax grew up in a world of privilege, private tutors, music, dance, and the unspoken but certain assurance that her future would be one of comfort. But each trip to London with her father stripped away the illusion, revealing streets filled with hunger, suffering, and lives deemed unworthy. She was never meant to belong to that world, yet it called to her in ways she couldn’t ignore.
When she gets a diagnosis of an incurable heart disease, Angelie refuses to let the countdown to the end of her life run out in silence. She boldly chooses to walk away from wealth, trading luxury for the cold streets of London’s slums. Taking work in a brothel, Angelie gathers lost children into her arms, offering them what little resources and time she has left.
The more she gives, the more the world pushes back. Desperation is a currency in these streets, and hope is a fleeting thing. Yet hope is exactly what Angelie becomes. She meets Baden Wilson, a mill owner’s son who should have turned a blind eye but instead finds himself drawn to her fight. As he unravels his father’s sins, Angelie’s quiet rebellion awakens something in him, a need to right what has been wronged.
Angelie’s heart is failing, but before it does, she has one last dream: to give the children she’s saved a voice, to prove that even those the world discards can shine.
If only she can live long enough to fulfill the promise.
